Sigh… another lifter

I do not understand how people can misunderstand the concept of just enjoying the display of images but do not take anything?
Last year I created this wonderful image with the help of a tutorial from Mar’s Jumbo in honor of the VA Tech victims:

Checking my blogs stats tonight, I saw that an address from Ebay was pulling an unusually large amount of my bandwidth, to find the image on at least three items the seller had in their store, not so much as a comment, or permission to use the image, they conveniently hotlinked from my blog.
To some this may not seem like a big deal, and that I should be honored that someone chooses to steal an image off my site then to add insult to injury not having the decency to upload to their server, but put a strain on my bandwidth!
Normally, I would send a message to the offender to please respect my copyright and remove the image, but the copyright is clear so I see this as an intentional act.
My actions today are not meant as any disrespect to the Virginia Tech family, my younger brother was accepted to study there, my son’s godmother has a son that goes to school there, and I lived only 2-hours away from Blacksburg, so it is a big disrespect that someone would choose to honor that day by stealing from someone else.

and here
and here

Well, I have other things to do than check EVERY single of the 308 listed items.
I have to wonder how this seller would feel if others were to hotlink those huge images and have a couple thousand visitors pass through everyday, and see how happy they would feel if their server company were to cut them off and charge them more for exceeding their bandwidth limit.

The Displaced Victorian…….Longing for a time when: Ladies were ladies and gentlemen were gentlemen, when both exuded an air of proper respectability, a time more civil and polite, a time more proper and social…….
Are you freaking kidding me?
As much as it is against the original intent of the internet - more and more people will close the free access to content. Running a webserver by itself is already expensive enough - why should the owner add costs by having bandwidth stolen?
What annoys me the most is those that steal have a lot of excuses for themselves, but not for those they took from.
But why should one be surprised - after all, top politicians are doing it, just remember MySpace and some of the Presidential candidates…
As a photographer, I try to remember to watermark all my images before posting, a tedious and time consuming process because I do each image differently, but I sure don’t want my work stolen either.
Love your version. You go girl. Protect your bandwidth.
I saw that too, and claiming ignorance just isn’t good enough, like I said how would she feel if someone where to hotlink her images?
Frank,
Rightly said, she will have every excuse why she should be allowed to take what doesn’t belong to her.
Jennifer,
I agree that it serves no purpose for people to have to protect their work they way they do because of a few inconsiderate people, what burns me is that she didn’t even ask, and I knew she came to my page because she is pulling the image directly from my page arrghhh.
Castocreations,
I agree that having to go through these loops is just ridiculous.
Marianne,
Good for you! Unfortunately I just don’t see any of these steps discouraging people from stealing, now I understand why some people take it a step further and disable right-clicking on their sites, which I am not ready to take that step.
vulcanhammer,
I would be inclined to agree with you but for the fact that all images on my blog are copyrighted to me, and the fact that she links directly from blog means she came to my page, didn’t bother to ask to if she could use the image, and is now claiming that it is her image, with my copyright right on the image!
feefifoto,
Happy to oblige you
beeker,
Unfortunately she didn’t learn anything from it, she is now claiming that someone messed up her image and Ebay is looking into it
kexbrown,
That exactly is what is the problem, I “found” it online therefore it is mine, just completely rude.
Haney
I use a program called Paint Shop Pro and there are numerous tutorials out on the web for various learning levels.
Rene,
She did but as expected, is claiming someone messed up “her image”
Cindi,
Anything to help, and yes I believe that the majority of Ebay sellers are honest and trustworthy, unfortunately this one slipped through the crack and is now claiming to be the victim.
Chris,
I agree and there is not much I can do, she still has the image up, is aware that it has been changed, but is now acting like the victim of some “conspiracy”
Not so surprising is that the seller not only has refused to remove my image but put up a huge message which reads
“Please excuse the black ugly words written over top of my Virginia Tech tribute. I have no idea how someone could have the heart to do this nor do I understand HOW they did it. I am working with eBay to find out who and they will be removing it. What a fallen world we live in!”
Well I hope Ebay does take a look into her account and she can have fun explaining if she owns the right to images on Scramories.
What is her problem? She stole the stuff - not you!
I just added a question - but it does not seem it shows up.
How disgusting that someone tells the seller to complain to ebay and the seller agrees. Displaced Victorian, you are a thief for crying out loud! Copyright laws protect the copyright, not the thief!
No one should have been able to come onto my auction page and post the nasty comment in black lettering over top of the VA Tech memorial graphic.
Well, since you stole the image and it’s not hosted by you…
Whoever posted the nasty message, in my mind, is the one who should be apologizing.
There we go: You steal and the person you stole from has to apologize.
